I’m Bondy

I am an interdisciplinary fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

I was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Leeds working on MUSICSTREAM: Music Culture in the Age of Streaming (ERC funded 2021-2026).

I am author of TikTok: Creativity and Culture in Short Video, with Jing Zeng and Patrik Wikström, the first scholarly monograph on TikTok published by Polity Press in 2022. I research music, cultural policy, and digital platforms. My work is informed and influenced by decolonizing scholarship. My doctoral dissertation interrogated the the colonial legacy of copyright law in the Myanmar music industry in 2021.

I have published peer-reviewed articles on the financialization of music copyrights, (mis)attribution, parallel platformization, and visibility moderation on TikTok, cultural policy in Myanmar, playful patriotism in China, content creators and media censorship in India, and copyright gossip on YouTube.

I am currently the drummer for Misbah and Family. I was previously drummer and songwriter for Parallel Path.
